Cranksgiving Update

We have moved the start of the race to Good People! Registration will start there at 12:00 pm, and the race will start at 12:45.

Good People will be donating $1 from every beer sale to the Community Food Bank from 12-5pm, so we encourage you to drink up (responsibly).

There will be a big barrel collecting donations for the food bank, so if you'd like to bring things to dontate apart from what you'll be collecting during the race, please do! Good People will be holding a general food drive that day as well.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:
bicycle - to ride duh
large bag, basket, trailer, or other carrying device - for your purchases
money - participation in this event is free, but you'll need to pay for goods at the grocery stops. Cash will make this transaction easier, but you do you. This will be helpful for purchasing post race beverages as well.
A generous attitude - this is a charity event for those in need during the holiday season, so we hope you come with open hears and wallets.

SEE YOU NOVEMBER 23 12:00 PM AT GOOD PEOPLE!

Good People Brewery is on board!

I'm happy to welcome Good People Brewery as our first-ever Cranksgiving sponsor! The Good People taproom at 114 14th St. S will serve as our finish line, where we will collect racer's manifests and food items, and everyone can further support the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama just by drinking beer! Good People will generously donate $1 from each beer purchase to the charity, as well as donating a prize package for one of our racers.

Welcome to the first annual Birmingham Cranksgiving charity ride!

What is Cranksgiving?

Cranksgiving is a charity bicycle ride/race that was started in 1999 by bike messengers in New York City. Since then it has spread across the country, even into Canada and Puerto Rico! Riders compete in an alleycat-style race, going to grocery stores across the city to collect food items that are then donated to a local hunger-relief charity.

I've never done a ride like this before? How does it work?

It's easy. You show up, grab a manifest, figure out the best route, and start riding when we say "GO!". Make sure you've got a bag and a lock, because you're going to need to lock up to run into grocery stores. A helmet is not required, but strongly encouraged.

Do I need to ride a fixed gear bike?

Not at all. Very few rides are "fixed-gear only". Cranksgiving is definitely not one of them. You can ride any kind of bike you want. More variety is more fun!

How much does it cost to register?

It's free to register, but you'll need cash to buy food at the grocery stores. $15-$20 should suffice for the required items, but you can buy as much as you would like to donate. There will be a prize for the most food donated.

Can I register online?

No. Registration will only take place at the beginning of the event. Registration will begin at 11:30am and the ride will begin at 1pm.

This is such a great idea! How do I throw a Cranksgiving in my own town?

Cranksgiving is a simple event to throw because it requires minimal volunteer effort. This guide has always been a great starting point.
